We Have Domesticated Cats

Are you looking to add a new addition to your family?

The cats that are up for adoption at the Sanctuary come from all walks of life; some have been surrendered due age or medical conditions, some are rescued from high kill shelters where they were up for euthanasia, and some were found stray. One thing they all share is their search for their forever permanent home.

If you see a cat you are interested in, please fill out the adoption inquiry form at the bottom of the page, and our coordinator will get in touch with you.

Adoption Stories

Henry

Hamilton

Duchess

Henry was a feral resident of the Sanctuary for eight years. He is a handsome guy with long, fluffy grey and white fur with piercing green eyes. Henry spent a lot of time sitting on his own, quiet and withdrawn, with his back to the other cars in the Sanctuary on a cat tree platform. He seemed to have little interest in being adopted or getting to know his human caretakers.

One of our volunteers, Solveig Whittle, met Henry in the fall of 2019 when she and her 16-year-old son began volunteering to help socialize the feral cats at the Sanctuary. Solveig instantly was drawn to him and resolved to work with him more directly. After a few weeks of gentle coaxing and a few tentative ear pets, Henry finally let Solveig pick him up.

Out of nowhere, Henry became extremely sick with an upper respiratory infection. Luckily, Solveig had already been working with Henry and was a familiar and trusted person to him. She offered to foster him at her own home while nursing him back to health.  After several weeks of living at the Whittle household, it became very apparent that Henry was not going to go back to the Sanctuary! He had fallen in love with his new life and his new home. Despite his previously solitary and feral way of life, he melted into a new role as a member of Solveig’s family. He is now a bright and cheerful kitty, fully recovered from his infection and nicely settled in with his new fur-friends; a big orange cat and a sweet black pug. Solveig still volunteers at the Sanctuary every Sunday, although she hasn’t brought home any more kitties (yet)!

Duchess

Hamilton

Duchess

Cat Adoption at Feral Care

I am so grateful to Feral Care Sanctuary for saving Duchess, who now has a forever home with me! The Duchess is the first of three siblings that were adopted from the Sanctuary.

She came to the Sanctuary at just six months old. She was born into a feral cat colony in Los Angeles and was very scared of humans. The veterinarian in LA was unable to examine her. She was so scared! Thankfully, the Sanctuary took in both Duchess and a few of the other cats from the colony and got them on the path to humanization. The volunteers there - including me - worked consistently with them, playing, and socializing with them to get them used to humans. Duchess is very curious and full of energy, and she eventually opened up to me and I was able to pet her. That was it! I fell in love with her little spirit, and I took her home. I have had cats my entire life, so it was no question that I could open my heart to one more. Duchess now lives in the lap of luxury with me and her new “brother”, the 8-year old “Lord M”. , and her blonde servant, who waits on them hand and foot.

Hamilton

Hamilton

Adopting our adult cat Hamilton from the Feral Care Sanctuary three years ago was hands down the best decision we have ever made.

Initially, we were a little nervous about adopting an older cat with a history of acting up. What were we getting ourselves into? But the Feral Care team has a saying: "There are no bad cats." And (as we soon discovered), they are totally right! Just like people, cats can lash out when something is wrong. We worked hard to understand why Hamilton was having issues, so that we could solve the problem and ensure he was happy in our home. We had so much support from The Feral Care team - they are immensely knowledgeable about cats, and they were able to educate us not only on general cat care, but also on Hamilton in particular. Oftentimes cats are in their care for years before they are adopted, so the Feral Care team knows them intimately and can pinpoint exactly what each kitty needs to be happy and successful in their new forever home. In Hamilton's case, all he really needed was good food, a stable home and lots of love!

We eventually moved from Seattle all the way to Germany with Hamilton, and the Feral Care team helped us prepare him to make a smooth transition. He took it like a champ and adapted with no issues!

At the end of the day, we know that we have given a great home to a sweet old man cat. We love having him as part of our family - we can't imagine our lives without him. Adopting Hamilton is truly the best decision we have ever made, and we're so grateful to Feral Care for providing us unending support, which made it possible for Hamilton to adjust into our lives (and to living abroad) easily. He truly is the happiest cat now, and our hearts are so full. Thank you!

Mau

Mau's Adoption Story coming soon....

Mao was surrendered to the Feral Care Sanctuary in November. She was a stray cat whose elderly caretaker had passed away. In Nancy's 20 years of working with cats, she has never seen a cat so shut down. Incredibly heartbreaking.

Nancy knew that she would stop eating and die if she did not get adopted soon. She brought her into the adoption center at The Whole Cat and Kaboodle to receive intense observation and care from her staff members.

The good news was that Mao was eating all her meals and using her litter box; however, very withdrawn. After a veterinarian medical examination, they found she needed some dental work and extractions, which helped a bit, but not much. As a last resort, they took her to Vicki Draper, a Certified Healer, and Communicator. She used a variety of unconventional modalities on Mao. Finally, she had a breakthrough!!! She received three sessions with Vicki, and at each session, she came more and more out of her withdrawn state. Mao has now been adopted to a wonderful forever home.

Every cat deserves a chance at a good life.
